A chair for the world.

This was what the "Mondial" was meant to become according to its designers, Gerrit Rietveld and his son, Willem.
The chair was presented at the Brussels World's Fair in 1958, and is wonderfully simple, although it never really became a "chair for the world". We are therefore giving the "Mondial" another chance. The principal characteristic of the "Mondial" is its special K-profile, whereby the backrest, seat, legs and optional armrests are brought together on a single central tube. The designers of the "Mondial" were way ahead of their time. It is only now, with modern welding techniques, that it is possible to produce the "Mondial" exactly as Messrs Rietveld really intended: namely, as a chair with a one-piece aluminium seat. Which is what Gispen has now created.

The colour options are: black and white legs, with the table leaves are in black linoleum, white veneer on birch plywood, walnut and oak veneer.
