Here is our summer newsletter. Once again, we have many new products we would like to bring to your attention. However, to save clogging up your computer too much, we have picked out an exceptional selection.
This is the sofa 'Greg'. Designed by Emaf Progetti. You can order this sofa in all manner of variants. This version is a chaise longue. Our collection includes the 222cm, three-seater sofa (approx. € 3,315 depending on choice of fabric) and the pouffe 80x90cm (approx. € 995 depending on choice of fabric).
Piet just couldn’t help himself. He simply had to design a barbecue. And thank goodness, because it’s fantastic. Handy, solid and beautifully constructed. 130x40x124cm. € 850.
Designer Tord Boontje is our romantic, famous for his stunning floral motifs. Kvadrat also noticed this, and gave Tord an assignment to design a collection of curtains. We were impressed by the way he managed to create a completely contemporary image from such an old device as the floral pattern. Here are some examples.
The now distinguished duo Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, operating under the name 'Studio Job', have designed a unique series of biscuit porcelain for Royal Tichelaar. This consists of nine dishes of various sizes, and five 'pieces'. These are allegorical reliefs of fairy tale and fantasy figures. Here are a few examples to whet your appetite.
Dieter Rams designed marvellous classics for Braun, such as the well-known radios, watches and alarm clocks. Products that leave their mark.
Christien Meindertsma recently graduated from the Academie voor Industriële Vormgeving (Design Academy) in Eindhoven and set up her own studio, Flocks. And her work does indeed have a lot to do with sheep and wool. And although her approach is rugged, the effect is refined. Meindertsma graduated with sweaters and rugs. We immediately commissioned her to knit a rug for us. This is just a taster. We will be showing more from her in the autumn.
Royal Copenhagen (1775) is a company with an interesting past. The company is known for its refined ceramics, with their typical Scandinavian touch. To see more of this, visit www.royalcopenhagen.com. We have chosen the sober 'White Pot' service. Designed by architect Grethe Meyer in 1971. We consider this service to have a strong form, as well as being reasonably priced. A lovely service to have waiting in your kitchen.
René is well-known as a graphic designer, and his brother Edgar has earned his spurs as a design engineer. Together, they have created a wide range of special products. They have now come up with this herb cabinet: 'Herbal House'. Made from laser-cut enamelled steel, glass and teak. The calligraphy consists of 12 English herb names often used in European cuisine.
Marlies has been working for us for quite a while. She is a good stylist. In addition, she has her own brand, 'Mes', for which she produces the big beanbag and cushions, for example. She has now created a new series in patchwork, from the samples she had lying around. This guarantees that each one is unique.
Spotted in Milan! We have known most of our designers since they were students. This is also the case with Joost and Kiki. Their talent was clearly visible, even then. Naturally, they also wanted to make the transition to the furniture fair, in Milan. A brave step. We would like to congratulate Joost and Kiki, as they – literally and figuratively – shone there. From 30 June, they will also be displaying their objects and prototypes in our showcase. We wish them every success.
Studio Olgoj Chochoj is a young design studio in Prague. Until now, they have concentrated on designs for glasswork. That’s how Janem Nemeckem came up with these glasses. The series was made at Moravska, an old Czech company that, in spite of all the political upheavals, has retained a highly skilled level of craftsmanship!
Marc Newson is a familiar face to us. He recently dropped by to promote his aluminium bicycle, and you may know him from his exhibition in the Groninger Museum. He also designed the 'Scope' series for Samsonite. A handy, strong and above all sexy range of suitcases. Maybe not a product you would expect us to have. But hey, for Marc Newson we’re prepared to make an exception!
